10 Commandments for a Healthy Marriage

You don’t have to be a person of faith to be somewhat familiar with the actual Ten Commandments. They’re rules for right living given to us. They’re simple, and if followed, they can help us love our neighbors better. Sometimes, the “neighbors” who can be the most difficult to love are the ones next to us in bed—our spouses. I hope that will help you “live right” with the person you live with.

1. Don’t put other relationships above your marriage.

2. Don’t speak harshly about your spouse or your marriage.

3. Carve out time for one another.

4. Help each other be great parents (and children to aging parents).

5. Argue to understand, not to win.

6. Don’t open your heart to anyone else.

7. Give more than you take.

8. Use your words to build one another up.

9. Don’t compare your marriage to others’.

10. Find new reasons to be grateful for the life you have.
